Who runs Friendly Debt Relief

Friendly Debt Relief is built and operated by S. Matthew Scott, also known as Matias. Matias has spent over 15 years in consumer consumer financial services and digital marketing, with a focus on debt and personal loan verticals. Prior to building Friendly Debt Relief, Matias operated Friendly Loans, a personal loan matching platform, which remains the sister division of First Mover, LLC.

Friendly Debt Relief was started because the debt settlement industry has two types of operators: large players that treat consumers as a funnel, and small players that cut compliance corners. There is room for a third option: a small operator that refuses to cut corners, that is honest about what debt relief is and is not, and that cares about matching the right consumer with the right provider, on terms the consumer understands.

That is what we are trying to build here.

Friendly Loans, the personal loan vertical, operates under the same legal entity. When consumers ask about unsecured debt, we direct them to debt relief options. When consumers ask about personal loans, we direct them to Friendly Loans. The two verticals share compliance infrastructure, not branding.

Our compliance posture

We treat compliance as a design principle, not an afterthought. Specific commitments:

  • TrustedForm certification on every consumer touchpoint. Dual certificate chain - one at inquiry, one at provider handoff.
  • Explicit TCPA consent capture. The consumer names the provider they are consenting to contact them.
  • FCRA-compliant soft credit check. When run, the consumer consents in writing on our domain. No impact to credit score. Not visible to lenders.
  • Excluded-state filtering. Applied at the routing layer before any match, not at the provider's intake.
  • No email, SMS, or call to any consumer on a suppression list.
  • No rebrokering. We originate our consumer experience. We do not forward leads from other affiliates.
  • No co-branding without written authorization. Providers in our network are named only when a contractual relationship is in place.

Our philosophy

We tell the truth about debt relief.

Debt settlement is a serious financial decision with real tradeoffs. It typically damages credit during the program. Forgiven debt may create tax liability. Enrollment is not right for every consumer. We will always tell you this before you enroll anywhere.

We respect consumer intent.

When a consumer reaches us, they are usually stressed, sometimes overwhelmed, often embarrassed. We design our process to reduce pressure, not amplify it. No countdown timers. No fake scarcity. No manipulation.

We earn trust through restraint.

We would rather lose a match than push a consumer into a program that is not right for them. The long-term operation depends on consumers and providers trusting that we do not oversell.
